Job Description
Interpreter – Spanish/English
Local health organization is looking for a Spanish/English Interpreter. The Spanish/English Interpreter will be responsible for direct interpretation in all clinic program areas, translation of written materials, and coordination of other interpreting needs.
Pay: $16.61/hour; $17.61/hour if certified as a medical interpreter
Interpreter Job Responsibilities:
- Provide direct interpretation as needed in various areas of the clinic
- Coordinate additional interpreting services as needed
- Assist provider and patients with cross-cultural/cultural sensitivity awareness
- Translate written materials
- Assist in development and implementation of formal relationships with community organizations to coordinate services
- Participate in workshops and training meeting to further knowledge and skills
Interpreter Job Requirements:
- Excellent bilingual (English and Spanish) written and verbal communication skills
- Medical terminology
- Possess strong customer service skills
- Ability to memorize multiple phrases at a time while provider or patient are speaking to interpret exactly what is being said
- Translate written text from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English
- Previous interpreting experience preferred, particularly in a health care setting
- Computer skills: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Ability to work with minimum/no supervision
Interpreter Education Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Prefer completion of Bridging the Gap Interpreting training course or equivalent
