Job Description

The Mechanical Drafter is a challenging and critical position. This position is highly energetic requiring significant multi-tasking and exceptional communication skills across many aspects of the business. This position will be part of our engineering and design team for a variety of aerospace electromechanical motion control products. Specific responsibilities below are functions and experience that will be required in the Electromechanical Drafter role. 
  1. Modeling and detailing in the design of products such:
    1. Housings
    2. Gears
    3. Gear-sets
    4. Gear boxes (Planetary, Spur, Differential, Bevel, Helical, etc.)
    5. Power Transmission Screws (Ball screws, Acme screws, Planetary roller screws, etc.)
    6. Various bearing configurations, fit/clearance, material selection, drawing checking, product weight optimization, etc.
  2. Knowledge of motors, sensors, and open/closed loop control system applications
  3. Experience in dimensioning and tolerancing
  4. Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 drafting standards
  5. Take concepts and layouts from lead engineer; clean them up to proper modeling process
  6. Actively draft and detail products through various stages of the product life cycle (proposal, design, development, verification, and product support)
  7. Solve problems but also recognize when a problem exists
  8. Create general principles to solve recognized problems in a simple, effective, and explainable manner
  9. Ensure that components meet form fit, function requirements, program costs, and schedule
  10. Interact regularly and collaboratively with the production, operations, and management teams
  11. Work with external suppliers to answer questions and improve the design for manufacturability
  12. Own the designs and drawings
  13. Learn from peers, take charge when required, and offer opinions when necessary
 SPECIFIC DUTIES
  1. Create detailed assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings for new applications using SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM
  2. Create and execute product design details, which includes detailing, drawing, detailed piece part drawings with tolerance, complete Bills of Material on drawings in ERP
  3. Work cooperatively to provide Engineering technical support to manufacturing, suppliers, or customers
  4. Ensure products are designed for manufacturability (DFMA)
  5. Adhere to departmental procedures and standards to achieve highest quality of throughput
  6. Participate on special assignments as assigned
  7. Ability to be hands on and willing to work in the shop environment to build prototypes & support production issues
  8. Ability to participate in proposals and blank sheet design
 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. A.A.S. in Mechanical Design Technology and Drafting or Equivalent Degree Work Experience
  2. Specific applicable experience of 3-5 years in an applicable work environment
  3. Demonstrate drafting skills over a variety of mechanical components and assemblies
  4. Ability to select detailing fits for a variety of mechanical components such as bearings, dowel pins, retention devices, fasteners, etc. 
  5. Aerospace experience is a plus
  6. Experience in the following software 
    1. SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM
    2. SolidWorks Simulation is a plus
    3. Microsoft Products, including knowledge of Excel
  7. Exceptional analytical and mathematical background
  8. Ability to communicate information and ideas both written and orally so others will understand
  9. Knowledge of manufacturing processes & methods
  10. Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) (ANSI Y14.5M)
  11. U.S. Citizen, no dual citizenship allowed
 DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Knowledge of space environments is a plus
  2. Knowledge of setting up SolidWorks Enterprise PDM workflows is a plus
  3. Knowledge of MRP/ERP Programs is a plus
  4. Knowledge of PRO/E and AUTOCAD Inventor 
  5. Knowledge of Land and Sea based systems is a plus
  6. Knowledge of design for harsh environments is a plus
  7. Experience with SolidWorks Simulation is a plus
  8. Knowledge of certification/qualification testing per DO-160 and/or MIL-STD-810 is a plus
  9. Knowledge of MRP/ERP programs is a plus
