Job Description

Certified Medical Coder Leading medical facility in Rockford has an opening for an experienced in office Certified Medical Coder.  The Certified Medical Coder is responsible for timely, accurate and comprehensive abstraction of physician services from medical records. The Certified Medical Coder will utilize CPT-4 procedure and ICD-10 diagnosis codes to appropriately reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges. This job is in person, NOT remote.  Hours: 8am to 4:30pm, Mon-FriPay: $17.43/hour starting pay but can go up based on previous experience and longevity at previous employers. Certified Medical Coder Responsibilities:
  • Assign appropriate CPT-4 codes to accurately report patient services provided
  • Assign appropriate ICD-10 codes to support the need for physicians’ services
  • Identify services not adequately documented in the medical record, and advise supervisor 
  • Assist with physician billing and documentation
  • Compile monthly reports as needed
Certified Medical Coder Requirements:
  • One to two years’ experience in physician coding required
  • Maintain required productivity standards
  • Demonstrate professionalism when dealing with patients, their families, and fellow staff members
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations required
  • Communicate effectively and diplomatically both orally and in writing
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder) credential required or Certified Coding Specialist
    (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician based (CCS-P) or Certified Coding
    Associate (CCA) or Certified Evaluation and Management Coder (CPC-CEMC) or
    Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) required
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Scheduler
  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate strong time management skills
  • Must possess valid DL to drive between clinic locations and attend meetings off campus
