Job Description
Medical Insurance and Self Pay Collector
Local clinic is hiring a Medical Insurance & Self Pay Collector to work in their busy Rockford office. The Medical Insurance & Self Pay Collector is responsible for working with insurance companies and patients to make payment arrangements, handle collection on accounts, and monitor delinquent accounts.
Hours: 8am to 4: 30pm, Mon-Fri.
Pay: $15.58/hour depending on experience
Medical Insurance & Self Pay Collector Responsibilities:
- Accurately enter payments, adjustments, patient demographics, and insurance information
- Collect on delinquent accounts by establishing payment arrangements with patients, monitoring payments, and following up when payment lapses occur
- Perform various collection actions including contacting patients and insurance companies by phone or website, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers and preparing information for the collection agency
- Secure outstanding balance payments by establishing/offering payroll deductions
- Collect data for routine reporting and publication of Accounts Receivable
- Manage A/R and collection percentages
- Comply with established policies and procedures, objectives, HIPAA, safety, and environmental standards
Medical Insurance & Self Pay Collector Qualifications:
- Detail oriented with the ability to work with minimum or no supervision
- Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Scheduler; and medical billing software (eClinicalWorks), EDI systems
- Understand CPT and ICD-10 terminology
- Knowledge of HIPAA, Medicare/FQHC, Medicaid/FQHC
- Experience with medical billing systems; patient/insurance financial management
- Able to follow through, assume responsibility and use good judgment
- Communicate effectively and diplomatically with patients, insurance companies and facility personnel, both orally and in writing
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Any combination of experience and training that meets the requirements, for example, 3-5 years in a general or medical office administration
- Ability to follow-through, assume responsibility and use good judgment
